PROFESSOR JUSTIN WOOD

Professor Justin Wood

Justin Wood coaches our kids program and is a black belt under coach Alan Shebaro. Justin is originally from Amarillo, he moved to McKinney after graduating college. Justin holds a Bachelors degree from UNT. He began his lifelong obsession with combat sports while wrestling as a kid.

He has experience coaching karate as well as competitive amateur boxing through USA Boxing.  He has been training in various martial arts for over 10 years. Currently holds a black belt in freestyle karate.  Has also trained extensively in kickboxing and MMA. 

Justin has a passion for working with kids. His aim is to get every student perform at the highest of their abilities. Outside of coaching our kids class, Justin works with local at-risk youth and families.

PROFESSOR MIKE ANDERSON


Professor Mike Anderson

Professor Mike Anderson earned his black belt from Alan Shebaro in 2019. Originally from Minnesota, Mike relocated to North Texas in 2011. Mike hold a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in Consumer Science and Personal Finance. He works as a financial advisor and is currently a Board Member and Treasurer of the We Defy Foundation.

Over the years, Mike has competed in wide variety of different sports and athletics. He grew up playing hockey and track, transitioned to rowing in college, and was introduced to Judo.

Just before moving to North Texas, Mike began training in Jiu Jitsu. What started as a casual pastime has turned into a passion to train, compete, and teach.

PROFESSOR MISTY MCMILLAN

Professor Misty McMillan


2023 IBJJF NoGi World Master Champion and #1 ranked Professor Misty McMillan earned her Black Belt from Joseph Shelley (RMNU) in 2015 and is currently ranked as a 2nd degree Black Belt under Professor Shebaro.

Originally from Arizona, Misty received her bachelor’s degree from Grand Canyon University while attending their Martial Arts program. In 1996, she won the AZ State Championship Women’s Division under the American Grappling Association. During her college career, she participated in the training camps for Veteran UFC fighters Dan Severn and Mark Coleman.

Over the years, she has trained in various martial arts including Karate, Shootfighting, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Wrestling, and Krav Maga. In addition, Professor McMillan has been a training partner for several amateur MMA fighters.

Professor Misty McMillan has always had a passion and desire to address women’s concerns. She offers women only self-defense and BJJ classes, demonstrations, private and group instruction, and participates in Girls in Gi’s Events.

Professor McMillan currently teaches our Tuesday NoGi class and is one of our substitute instructors for all other classes.

COACH JAMES CAMPBELL


Coach James Campbell

Coach James Campbell is our early morning adult jiu jitsu instructor. He began training at Combat Base Texas in 2015 and received his black belt under Professor Shebaro in September of 2023. James was born in Tulsa and raised in North Dallas.

Coach James has previous martial arts experience with Karate and Boxing and is currently a green belt in Judo. He has competed in several local Jiu Jitsu and Judo tournaments.
